When you start comparing kitchen sprayers, you’ll find two main approaches: companies that spray everything in your kitchen, and companies that take the doors away to a workshop. It’s worth understanding the difference, because it affects the finish, the mess and how long your home is disrupted.
Spraying everything on site
Here, the whole kitchen is sprayed in your home. Doors are usually laid out on stands in a masked-off room or garage.
- Pros: the doors never leave the house, and there’s no transport involved.
- Cons: it’s much harder to keep dust and hairs out of the finish in a house; there’s more masking and overspray to manage; and the sprayers are in your home for longer.
Spraying doors in a workshop
The doors and drawer fronts are collected, taken to a dedicated workshop, prepared and sprayed there, then brought back and refitted.
- Pros: a controlled, dust-free space gives a cleaner, more factory-like finish; both sides of every door can be sprayed properly; and most of the work happens outside your home.
- Cons: the frames and fixed panels still have to be done in your kitchen — they can’t go to the workshop.
Why we do both
We combine the two. Your removable doors and drawer fronts are collected and sprayed at our dust-free workshop near Botley, where we can get the best possible finish. The fixed components — frames, end panels and anything that can’t come off — receive dust-free sanding and careful in-place finishing, colour matched exactly to the doors.
The result is a workshop-quality finish on the parts you touch most, and only 2 afternoons of disruption in your home across about 5 days.
Questions to ask any kitchen sprayer
- Where will my doors and drawer fronts be sprayed?
- How will you protect my worktops, floor and appliances?
- What paint system do you use, and is it made for kitchens?
- How many days will you be working in my home?
- What happens if the finish gets damaged later?
